Andrea Locatelli enters his fifth season with the factory Yamaha team in WorldSBK, still searching for a race win. After coming close in 2024 in Australia especially, ‘Loka’ will be aiming to stand on the top step of the rostrum in 2025. He is once again partnered alongside six-time Champion Jonathan Rea.
Yamaha (2021-)
Locatelli first made the step into WorldSBK in 2021, earning a factory seat immediately after a dominant WorldSSP title win. He took four podiums in his rookie season, finishing fourth in the standings, as then-teammate Toprak Razgatlioglu took the title. Two more rostrums came in 2022 as he finished fifth in the standings, before returning to fourth a year after – with eight podiums to his name. 2024 was a challenging season for Yamaha as they slipped down the pecking order, but ‘Loka’ still secured four podiums on the R1 machine.
WorldSSP (2020)
The #55 made the switch from Moto2™ to WorldSSP for the 2020 season and soon showed his potential on production-based machinery. Armed with the Yamaha R6, Locatelli won 12 races out of 15, including his first nine, only being defeated in a rain-soaked Barcelona Race 1 – although he bounced back the next day to secure the title.
Before WorldSSP
Before his switch to WorldSSP, Locatelli competed in Moto3™ for four seasons, claiming two podiums in Germany and Australia in 2016, before moving into Moto2™ for three seasons. He was a consistent points challenger but podiums eluded him before he moved into the World Superbike paddock.
